Night In Woods Costs Arm And Leg

San Francisco Examiner

Camping at state parks is on the verge of becoming an activity for the wealthy in California.

Beginning in April, the cost of camping at Seacliff State Beach in Monterey Bay will increase to a whopping $34.75 for a single night. The cost includes $28 for a campsite plus a $6.75 reservation fee, giving Seacliff the distinction of being the most expensive government-operated campground in America.

The state budget woes won’t affect campground fees at Yosemite and Lassen national parks, which charge $3-$14 a night, depending on the site. The U.S. Forest Service will charge $8-$14 a night at its 800 campgrounds in the state.

However, fees at the 160 state park campgrounds in California will be raised anywhere from $2 to $5. The average cost at a California state park next summer will be $27.75 a night.
