Sport Booms In Oregon

Snowmobiling

The Oregon State Snowmobile Association includes about 2,000 family memberships divided among 30 different chapters, according to Peggy Spieger, the association’s administrative assistant in Bend.

Snowmobiling has enjoyed significant growth in Oregon in recent years. There are now more than 11,400 snowmobiles registered with the state motor vehicles department, an increase of nearly 33 percent in six years.

“Snowmobiling has become a fast-growing sport because it appeals to people who work from daylight to dark during the summer months, truck drivers, construction workers, loggers,” said Spieger. “Those type of people have the time in the winter.”

“We have over 6,000 miles of groomed trail in Oregon,” she said.
