Author Will Speak On Eating Disorders

Eating disorders will be discussed by Cynthia Rowland McClure, author and expert on bulimia and overcoming addictive behavior, on Monday at Eastern Washington University.

McClure, a former TV news reporter, is author of “The Monster Within,” a book about eating disorders, now in its 10th printing, and its sequel, “The Courage to Go On: Life After Addiction.”

Her new book is “Food for the Hungry Heart.”

McClure was diagnosed with bulimia, a disease she struggled with for 12 years.

Since her recovery, she has researched that addiction and other eating disorders and now lectures across the country about overcoming addictive behaviors.

The 7 p.m. lecture in the multipurpose room in EWU’s Pence Union Building is free and open to the public.

The employee-owned supermarket chain is asking residents to donate like-new sweatshirts at any Rosauers by tonight. Each will be laundered and prepared by Goodwill Industries and distributed to those who attend the dinner.

For those who want to attend the event, free tickets, which include dinner, sweatshirts, and bus passes, are available at all Rosauers stores.

The Bradley Method

Weekly classes in the Bradley Method of husband-coached natural childbirth are scheduled to begin Wednesday, Thursday and Feb. 20.

Heather Ward will instruct Wednesday sessions from Wednesday to April 10, and Tuesday sessions from Feb. 20 to April 31, all from 7 to 9 p.m.

Amy Madtson will teach sessions from Thursday to April 25 from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m..

Bradley instructors urge couples to find what is comfortable for them during labor, said Madtson.

Other natural-birth methods seek to control the sensations of labor, while the Bradley Method recommends relaxed abdominal breathing and relaxation throughout labor.

For more information, call Madtson at 928-6108 or Ward at 927-4781.
