Ferris Drill Team Takes Honors At Competition

The Ferris High School Drill Team won three awards at the Pasco High School Dance/Drill Team Invitational Jan. 20: second place in the large team division, a trophy for best costuming, and selection for best sportsmanship. Team captain is Kathy Dodge; the coach is Brenda Marshall.

Scott Jones received two achievement merits from the Professional Photographers of America during the recent marketing and management conference in Las Vegas, Nev. Jones’ Spokane studio, Legacy, specializes in wedding and portrait photography.

Michelle Stephens and Sarah Sterk, students at Northwest Nazarene College, were selected for inclusion in Who’s Who Among American Colleges and Universities.

Stephens, from Spokane, is a health-education major and is student-body social vice president. Sterk, from Veradale, is a music-education major.

Jamie Nicole Berry, Spokane, earned a spot on the autumn-semester Dean’s List at the University of Montana.

Marine Cpl. Kirk J. Bray was recently promoted to his present rank while serving with the 2nd Assault Amphibious Battalion, 2nd Marine Division, Marine Corps Base, Camp Lejeune, N.C.

Bray, son of Mike W. and Glenda C. Bray, Spokane, is a 1993 graduate of West Valley High School.

His promotion was based on sustained superior job performance and proficiency in his designated specialty.

Nikki Osuga has been named to the Dean’s List at the U,S. International University in San Deigo, where she is majoring in business administration.

Jenna Lisette Freeman, Valleyford, was named to the Dean’s List at Grove City (Pa.) College, where she is majoring in Christian thought. Freeman, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. James Freeman, is a 1995 graduate of Freeman High School.

The Women and Children’s Free Restaurant has elected its 1996 officers:

Kathy Simmons, president; Barbara Hagedorn, vice-president; Peg DeVries, secretary; Linda Pierce, treasurer; Sandra Willis, food service manager; Marilyn Erpenbach, volunteer coordinator; and Joyce Wright, community liaison.

The non-profit group provides free meals and foster support systems for low-income women and children.
