Magic wanted to rejoin Riley

The news comes a bit late, but Magic Johnson said he would have been a member of Pat Riley’s Knicks if only the Lakers had given their blessing.

“I wanted it to be (with the Knicks), but we couldn’t work it out,” Johnson said.

Johnson, who had kept in touch with Riley since his retirement in 1991, said the two discussed the possibility “every year” he was out, but Lakers brass nixed the talks.
