Umass Retains Top Spot

Massacussetts, which needed overtime to beat Xavier of Ohio 78-74 Sunday, held on to the No. 1 spot in The Associated Press men’s basketball rankings for the seventh straight week.

The Minutemen (21-0) received 58 first-place votes and were followed by Kentucky (18-1), Kansas (18-1), Connecticut (21-1) and Cincinnati (17-1).

Washington is at No. 27 with 107 votes.

Georgia (18-2) remained the No. 1 women’s team for the second consecutive week, and was followed by Louisiana Tech (19-1), Connecticut (20-3) and Stanford (16-2) in the AP poll.
