Pairs Skater Ponders Solo

Compiled From Wire Services

Ekaterina Gordeeva, the two-time Olympic pairs champion, reportedly is considering a singles career.

Gordeeva, whose husband and skating partner Sergie Grinkov died of a heart attack last November, told Sports Illustrated she is working on a program created by Marina Zoueva, who choreographed the couple’s routines. She said she has no plans to be a pairs skater again.

“I cannot even think of someone else’s arms around me, touching me,” said Gordeeva, who won gold medals with Grinkov in the 1988 and 1994 Olympics.
