Selkirk Upends Columbia, 54-38

The South rose again on Tuesday. Molly Carlson scored 29 on 13-of-19 shooting from the field as visiting Selkirk (15-5), seeded third in the South, beat North No. 2 Columbia 54-38 in a Panorama League Tournament opener at Hunters.

South teams won three of four tourney openers. North dignity was saved by No. 1 Inchelium, a winner over No. 4 Springdale.

Selkirk advances to Friday’s semifinal against South champion St. George’s. Columbia (11-9) plays Republic in a Friday loser-out game.

St. George’s held Melissa Friend (17.5 ppg) to one basket. Republic came in as the No. 4 from the North.

Jessica Daniel, L-W’s leading scorer, dislocated her knee 6 minutes into the game. Gar-Pal, the No. 5 seed, plays No. 4 Rosalia (10-10) at 6 p.m. Friday in a league tournament opener at Endicott. The No. 6 Tigercats play No. 3 Colton (11-8) at 3. Both games are loser-out.
