Jeremy Sandin Valley Christian Year: Senior Sport: Basketball Position: Forward

Jeremy Sandin employed a secret formula to win the Bi-County League scoring title.

Call it The Anonymous Strategy.

“It kind of helped going into this year that opponents didn’t know that much about me,” said Sandin, whose 46 points in two games last weekend gave him 302 for 14 league games (21.6 points per game).

During his junior season Sandin played seven league games before scoring in double figures.

Other than his status as an unknown commodity, a couple of factors helped Sandin pick up his play this year. He practiced diligently during the summer, then found himself as a rarity: a senior on a young Panthers team.

Despite their 5-9 league record, the Panthers gave fits to nearly every team. Last weekend they qualified for the league tournament by upsetting Sprague-Harrington and eliminating Davenport, which had a similar record. In both cases, the Panthers reversed earlier-season results.

“We knew it would make (the prospect of advancing) less complicated if we won both games,” Sandin said.

Sandin became noted this year for his low-key style and his late heroics.

“Coach (Tim Hildebrand) would pretty much tell the team to go to my side,” Sandin said. “Also, a lot of those points came on offensive rebounds.”
