Park Pavilion Repairs Focus Of Meeting

Riverfront Park’s Pavilion needs countless repairs that could cost taxpayers hundreds of thousands of dollars, Spokane Park Board members say.

At a meeting today, the board plans to discuss whether to hire a consultant to study the Pavilion’s condition and repair needs.

The Pavilion’s fate has been in question since voters last fall narrowly defeated the Seattle-based Pacific Science Center’s proposed lease of the building.

Center backers hoped for a second vote in March, but center officials pulled out of the plan in December.

At least one Park Board member suggested tearing the Pavilion down, saying taxpayers can’t afford the repairs.

The board meets today at 1:30 p.m. in the council chambers of City Hall, 808 W. Spokane Falls Blvd.
