Scott Burrell, hampered by injuries throughout his career with the Charlotte Hornets, will sit out the rest of the season following one more setback suffered in practice. Burrell dislocated his right shoulder while reaching to deflect a pass. Dr. Glenn Perry said surgery will be performed in two to three weeks, followed by a six-month rehabilitation period.

First baseman David Segui and the Montreal Expos agreed to a $3.1 million, two-year deal after their arbitration hearing in Chicago. … The Mighty Ducks of Anaheim, trying to boost themselves into playoff contention as the NHL season winds down, acquired three-time All-Star forward Teemu Selanne from the Winnipeg Jets. The Jets, who will move to Phoenix next season, receive defenseman Oleg Tverdovsky, center Chad Kilger and Anaheim’s third-round draft pick later this year. … Petr Nedved, a former center with the Vancouver Canucks but now with the Pittsburgh Penguins, was charged with sexually assaulting a woman in her Vancouver-area home in late 1994.
