At Tempe, Ariz., Ben Davis made two free throws with 26 seconds left, then pulled down a rebound as time expired to preserve the Wildcats’ 71-69 victory over the Sun Devils.

The Sun Devils had two shots at forcing overtime in the final 5 seconds - but first Jeremy Veal and then Ron Riley missed, with Davis grabbing the second rebound.

The Wildcats (17-4, 7-3 Pac-10) won in Tempe for the first time in three years. Arizona State (8-10, 3-7) had won three of the last four games in the intrastate series, but this time was looking for revenge after a 108-76 thrashing at Tucson on Jan. 10.

Miles Simon had 11 of his 16 points in the second half, six during a 23-7 run as Arizona opened a 64-50 lead with 6:56 left.
