Ewu’s Johnson On Isu Short List

Former Idaho State football coach Dave Kragthorpe and ex-pro football player and television commentator Irv Cross are among five finalists to become ISU athletic director.

Eastern Washington A.D. John Johnson also is a finalist.

Kragthorpe coached the Bengals from 1980-1982. He now is Utah State’s assistant director of alumni relations. Cross works for Smith Barney in Virginia.

Johnson, 36, has been EWU A.D. since 1992. He gradauted from East Valley High in 1978 and played football at EWU, where he earned bachelor’s and master’s degrees.

“I’m an Eastern guy,” he said. “I went to school here and like it here. It’s just a different opportunity.”
