Nevada Crash Kills Navy Fighter Pilot

Compiled From Wire Services

A Navy fighter pilot was killed Thursday when his single-seat jet crashed in the Nevada desert.

It was the second fatal crash in three weeks involving planes from Fallon Naval Air Station.

The F-5E aircraft went down at 8:30 a.m. about 60 miles northeast of Fallon in the Clan Alpine mountains. A search-and-rescue team found the pilot’s body a short time later.

Richard T. Ryon, 36, of McLean, Va., was assigned to Strike Fighter Squadron 127 based in Fallon.
