University’s Boys And Girls Beat Struggling Nc Squads

Kelly Hineman made all four of her free throws in the fourth quarter and hit a short jumper with 2 seconds left Thursday as University’s boys edged visiting North Central 56-54 to improve their playoff hopes.

U-Hi (10-9, 7-8) moved a game ahead of Gonzaga Prep (6-7) for the league’s sixth and final spot to the district tournament. Eighth-place NC (7-11, 4-10) was eliminated from district contention.

The Titans led by nine points at halftime, but the Indians came back for a one-point lead with a minute left. Ryan Massey’s tip-in of a missed free throw gave the Titans a 54-51 lead, but Brandyn Blanchat’s 3-pointer tied the game with 9 seconds to go.

Hineman also had four 3-pointers on his way to 26 points. NC’s Jerry Holdren had a game-high 11 rebounds.

Emily Stuenkel scored 10 second-quarter points and Crystal Conant added six assists as the Titans (9-9, 7-8) beat the visiting Indians (0-18, 0-14) and moved past idle Gonzaga Prep (6-7) into fifth place.

Sally Jamison and Syd Perno added five rebounds apiece for U-Hi. Meagan Delauder of NC came off the bench to score seven fourth-quarter points.
