Famed Classical Producer Dies At Age 75

John Pfeiffer, who produced recordings by some of classical music’s most famous artists, including Van Cliburn, Jascha Heifetz and Arturo Toscanini, died at work at age 75.

Pfeiffer died Thursday of a heart attack while working and listening to music in his office, RCA spokeswoman Marilyn Egol said.

Other artists whose recordings he produced included Artur Rubinstein, Vladimir Horowitz and conductors Leopold Stokowski, Fritz Reiner and Eugene Ormandy. He also worked with the Philadelphia, Chicago and Boston symphony orchestras as well as electronic and pop music groups.

He was compilation producer for “The Heifetz Collection,” which was nominated this year for a Grammy Award.
