Lc Closes League Play Unbeaten

Boys basketball

The Lake City boys basketball team pulled off a minor miracle Friday night and it had nothing to do with the actual game.

Somehow, the Timberwolves made it to Lewiston despite road closings and came away with a 48-44 Inland Empire League victory over the Bengals to finish an undefeated season of league play.

Lake City got a 16-point effort off the bench from Mike Asper to lead the team.

“He’s (Asper) been a real sparkplug for us,” Lake City coach Jim Winger said. “He’s the best sixth man I’ve ever had.”

Lewiston (3-4, 6-12) fell behind 16-5 early and battled back as the Timberwolves (8-0, 16-4) became sluggish after the half.

“Lewiston was fired up and they played with a lot of emotion,” Winger said.

The Bengals were paced by Jeremy Frei with 14 points.

Lake City’s Jon Chatfield, the leading scorer in the league, was held to a season-low nine points.
