Whitney Hedgepeth won the 100-meter backstroke at the U.S. swimming championships in Orlando, Fla., giving her seven national titles in seven different events during her career.

Hedgepeth won in a time of 1 minute, 2.36 seconds. Earlier in the meet, she won the 200-meter backstroke.

Canadian Donovan Bailey set a world record in the men’s 50-meter dash with a time of 5.56 seconds in the Reno Air Games indoor track meet and Gwen Torrence set an American women’s record with a time of 6.07 seconds in the 50 meters.
