Fay Florea Bonners Ferry, Idaho

A celebration of the life of Fay Allen Florea, 71, will be held today at 11 a.m. at the United Methodist Church in Bonners Ferry. Bonners Ferry Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Florea, who was born in Colorado, died Tuesday.

He attended school in Colorado and moved to Oregon in 1938.

He served in the Marine Corps during World War II. He was discharged in 1946 and joined his parents in Bonners Ferry.

Mr. Florea had worked at the First National Bank, Kelson Lumber Co., Pack River Lumber Co., and WI Forest Products, serving as plant manager until his retirement.

He owned the Hawkins House Restaurant and was a member of the Lions Club and the American Legion.

Mr. Florea enjoyed fishing, bowling and working on the family ranch. He loved woodworking, playing cards, traveling and being with his family.

Survivors include his wife, Fredericka of Bonners Ferry; four sons, Steve and Stan, both of Bonners Ferry, Scott of California and Shane of Colorado; and 22 grandchildren.

Harold Stern Lake Havasu City, Ariz.

Memorial service for Harold B. Stern, 70, will be today at Community Presbyterian Church in Lake Havasu City.

Mr. Stern, who died Tuesday, was born in Cedonia, Wash.

He graduated from North Central High School and operated Stern Construction in Spokane.

He built a summer home on the east shore of Priest Lake, Idaho, in 1956. In 1965 he moved from Spokane to Anchorage, Alaska. He retired in 1984 and spent winters in Lake Havasu City and summers at Priest Lake.

He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Viola; three daughters, Linda Stern of San Jose, Calif., Carol Stern of Edmonds, Wash., and Claudia Sterns of San Francisco; one son, Ted Stern of Anchorage, Alaska, one brother, Ed Stern of Deer Park; one sister, Edna Stern of Houston, Texas; and four grandchildren.

Memorial contributions may be made to Kaniksu Lions Scholarship Fund in Nordman, Idaho.

Catherine Adams Coeur d’Alene

Private family service for Catherine Adams, 80, will be held later. English Funeral Chapel in Coeur d’Alene is in charge of arrangements.

Ms. Adams, who was born in Chicago, died Wednesday.

She was a registered nurse and served with the Nurse Army Corps.

In 1991 she moved to Coeur d’Alene to live with her son. She was a member of St. Thomas Catholic Church.

Survivors include a son, John Adams of Coeur d’Alene; a daughter, Julie O’Toole of Phoenix, Ariz.; one sister, Mary Schmalfeld of Kentucky; eight grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Melvin ‘Tack’ Hammer Spokane

Family service for Melvin H. “Tack” Hammer, 84, will be at 11 a.m. today at Ball and Dodd Funeral Home-South. Burial will be at Spokane Memorial Gardens. Memorial service will be at 1 p.m. at Heritage Congregational Church.

Mr. Hammer, who was born in Tekoa, Wash., died Feb. 2.

He graduated from North Central High School and received a degree in hotel/restaurant management from Cornell University.

He had managed the Spokane Press Club, served as food service manager for the Walla Walla Country Club and Yellowstone National Park, managed North’s Chuck Wagon in Spokane, worked as retail trade bureau manager for the Spokane Chamber of Commerce and worked in sales with KHQ-TV.

He and his wife had a summer home, which he built, at Loon Lake, Wash.

He was a member of Heritage Congregational Church, Masonic Lodge No. 34 and the Spokane Restaurant Council.

He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Lillian Hammer; one daughter, Marilyn Meechan of Yakima; one son, Douglas Hammer of Spokane; his mother, Flossie Hammer of Spokane; one sister, Muriel Connerton of Seattle; five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Steven Bailey Spokane

Service for Steven M. Bailey, 53, will be at 11 a.m. today at Sunset Chapel at Fairmount Memorial Park. The Cremation Society of Washington is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Bailey, who died Wednesday, was born in Ewan, Wash.

He moved to Spokane in 1948 and worked as a general laborer at various jobs.

He was an Army veteran and a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1474.

Mr. Bailey is survived by two sons, Scott and Shane Bailey, both of Spokane; one brother, Gerald Bailey of Spokane; four sisters, Juanita Stuart of Sandpoint and Frances Norton, Patty Hunt and Geraldine Banik, all of Spokane; and three grandchildren.

Samuel Orr Omak, Wash.

Burial Mass for Samuel A. “Sam” Orr, 78, will be at 10 a.m. today at St. Mary’s Mission Catholic Church. Burial will be at St. Mary’s Mission Catholic Cemetery. Precht-Harrison Chapel in Omak is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Orr, a longtime Okanogan Valley resident, died Wednesday. He was born in Omak.

He graduated from Omak High School and had attended the Chemawa Indian School in Salem, Ore.

He worked in the Civilian Conservation Corps and the building of Grand Coulee Dam.

In 1942 he married Caroline Nelson, who died in 1992.

He served as a sergeant technical fourth class with the 1st Army, 104th Division, 555th Attack Unit. His unit participated in the liberation of the Nordhausen Concentration Camp in 1944.

In 1952 Mr. Orr returned to cattle ranching and worked as a mechanic and service manager for more than 30 years in the Omak and Okanogan areas.

He was active in the Catholic Church at St. Mary’s Mission and was a member of the Confederated Tribes of the Colville Reservation.

Survivors include his wife Lila (Moomaw Monroe) Orr of Omak; three daughters, Caroline Orr of Seattle and Veronica Ingram and Margaret Orr, both of Omak; one stepdaughter Loretta Marsh of Kent, Wash.; one sister Marie Ogle of Wenatchee; three grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

Thomas Farrelly Latah

Visitation for Thomas E. “Tom” Farrelly, 85, is scheduled for 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. today and Sunday at Kramer Funeral Home in Tekoa, Wash. Memorial service will be at 2 p.m. Monday at Latah Country Bible Church. Family graveside service will precede at Riverside Memorial Park in Spokane.

Mr. Farrelly died Wednesday at the Good Samaritan Center in Fairfield. He was born in Latah.

He graduated from high school in Latah and farmed on his family’s land for nearly 60 years before he retired in 1990.

He was never married and moved to the Good Samaritan Retirement Apartments in Fairfield in 1993.

He was a member of Latah Country Bible Church and Tekoa Grange.

Mr. Farrelly is survived by two sisters, Mabel Watson of Omak, Wash., and Muriel Masel of Tacoma.

Katherine Wilson Spokane

Service for Katherine M. Wilson, 83, is set for 10:30 a.m. today at Ball and Dodd Funeral Home-North. Burial will be at Fairmount Memorial Park.

Mrs. Wilson, who died Feb. 2, was born in Russia.

She became a naturalized citizen in 1931 and graduated from Colfax (Wash.) High School.

She and her husband, Harry Wilson, moved to Liberty Lake in 1943 and operated Dreamwood Bay Resort until 1956.

Her husband died in 1961, and Mrs. Wilson moved to Spokane in 1979.

She was a member of the Lincoln Heights Garden Club.

Survivors include one brother, Robert Rudy of Colfax; and four sisters, Anzee Ernastine Sontag of Spokane, Emma Rudy of Colfax, Maria Madsen of Billings, Mont., and Mary Ann Brophy of Kennewick.

Clarence Bolstad Spokane

Service for Clarence T. Bolstad, 81, will be today at 11 a.m. at Coffelt’s Moon Chapel in Sandpoint. Burial will follow at Pinecrest Memorial Park in Sandpoint. Coffelt Funeral Service is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Bolstad, who was born in North Dakota, died Tuesday.

He attended schools in North Dakota and moved to Sandpoint in 1934. He worked in Sandpoint as an electrician until moving to Alaska during World War II.

He moved back to the Clark Fork, Idaho, and Noxon, Mont., area and went to work for Washington Water Power in 1953. He was transferred to Spokane in 1963.

He enjoyed traveling and fixing things for his neighbors and was a ham radio operator.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Isabelle. Survivors include two sons, John of Bayview, Idaho, and Terry of California; two brothers, Norman of Sandpoint and Victor of Everett; a sister, Mabel Arndt of Sandpoint; four grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.

Emma Dudek Spokane

Service for Emma Jane Dudek, 71, is set for 10 a.m. today at Heritage Funeral Home. Burial will be at Greenwood Memorial Terrace.

Born in Chinook, Mont., Mrs. Dudek died Sunday.

She graduated from high school in Dodson, Mont., and from Northern Montana College in Havre, Mont.

She had lived in Spokane for 42 years and trained dogs and horses.

Mrs. Dudek was a member of the United Church of God.

Her husband, Loren Dudek, died in 1969.

She is survived by two brothers, Herschel Fox of Havre., and Harold Fox of Edgar, Neb.; and one sister, Vera King of Havre.

Lavora Hill Spokane

Memorial service for Lavora J. Hill, 86, is set for 11 a.m. today at Christian Life Church. Riplinger Funeral Home is in charge of cremation.

Mrs. Hill, who died Monday, was born in Davenport, Wash.

She had worked as a secretary in medical offices and was a member of Manito Presbyterian Church.

Her husband, Russell Hill, died in 1982.

She is survived by one son, Barry Hill of Spokane; one daughter, Diana Hill of Lincoln City, Ore.; two sisters, Elaine McKeown and Jean Arrasmith, both of Spokane; four grandchildren and one great-granddaughter.

Thomas Kombol Spokane

Service for Thomas Michael Kombol, 49, was Friday at Hennessey-Smith Funeral Home. Burial will be at Fairmount Memorial Park.

Mr. Kombol, a lifetime Spokane resident, died Monday.

He graduated from Gonzaga Prep in 1964 and was a long-haul truck driver.

He is survived by one brother, Peter Kombol of Lake Oswego, Ore.; and one sister, Claudia Kirkes of Phoenix, Ariz.

Roy Parvin Pullman

Service for Roy Max Parvin, 75, was Thursday at Simpson United Methodist Church in Pullman. Burial was at Pullman City Cemetery.

Mr. Parvin, a longtime Whitman County wheat farmer, died Sunday. He was born near Albion, Wash., on his mother’s family’s farm.

He graduated from Albion High School and, in 1947, married Zaidee Brown in Pullman. She died in 1987.

He worked on the family farm. He participated in the annual Gentlemen on Horseback trail ride and the Chief Joseph Trail Ride.

Mr. Parvin was a member of Pine Grove Grange, Moose Lodge, Appaloosa Horse Club and Masonic Lodge No. 49. He was a 4-H leader for the Spinning Spurs horse club and helped found the Washington State High School Rodeo Association.

He is survived by two sons, Calvin and James Parvin, both of Pullman; and five granddaughters.

Frank Lund Spokane

Memorial service for Frank James Lund, 88, will be at 11 a.m. today at Westminster Congregational United Church of Christ. Ball and Dodd Funeral Home-South is in charge of cremation.

A lifetime Spokane resident, Mr. Lund died Tuesday.

He was one of the owners of Warren, Little and Lund from 1940 until recently.

He was a member of Spokane Rotary No. 21, Prosperity Club, The Spokane Club and the board of Sheetmetal and Air Conditioning Contractors International.

His wife, Hazel Lund, died in 1993.

He is survived by one daughter, Karen Pennington of Bainbridge Island, Wash.; one son, Gary Lund of San Francisco; and two grandchildren.

Sharon Morlan Rathdrum, Idaho

Service for Sharon Ellen Morlan, 56, will be Monday at 1 p.m. at English Funeral Chapel in Post Falls.

Ms. Morlan, who was born in Spokane, died Wednesday.

She was a housewife and enjoyed the outdoors, fishing, camping and gardening.

Survivors include two sons, Terry of Watertown, N.Y., and Joseph of California; one daughter, Tammy Baird of Nine Mile Falls; one brother Brett Gossett of Spokane; and eight grandchildren.

Willard Church Seven Bays, Wash.

Memorial service for Willard L. Church, 59, will be held locally at a later date. Sunset Vista Cemetery and Funeral Home of Yuma, Ariz., is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Church died Jan. 29 in Yuma, where he and his wife wintered.

He was born in Southard, Okla.

He graduated from Deer Park High School and was a Washington state employee for 20 years at Lakeland Village and Eastern State Hospital. He retired in 1993 as a plant mechanic supervisor.

After he retired, he and his wife, Gail, moved to Seven Bays, Wash.

Mr. Church is survived by his wife of 35 years; his mother, Opal Church of Deer Park; one son, Todd Church of Bellingham; one daughter, Carmen Kuhn of Reardan, Wash.; one brother, Bruce Church of Downy, Calif.; and two grandchildren.

Edgar ‘Bud’ Davis Spokane

Memorial service for Edgar George “Bud” Davis, was Sunday at Hennessey-Smith Funeral Home.

Mr. Davis, 84, died Jan. 30.

He had lived in Spokane since 1978 and worked as a carpenter for Kramer Associates.

He was a World War II Army veteran and was a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 1435 and the Liberty Lake Men’s Club.

His wife, Amy Davis, preceded him in death.

He is survived by two daughters, Candice Davis and Sharon Davis-Goodrum, both of Spokane; two brothers John Flanigan of Palm Springs, Calif., and Alvin Flanigan of Atlanta; and three sisters, Eleth Chapatt of Rohnert Park, Calif., Esther Hale of Tulsa, Okla., and June Rice of Pacifica, Calif.

Joye Thurman Spokane

Memorial service for Joye F. Thurman, 70, was held Jan. 10 at Pines Cemetery Mausoleum.

Mrs. Thurman, who died Jan. 3, was born in Racine, Mo.

She had lived in Spokane for 18 years and worked as a secretary for Safeco and Medical Service Corp. She retired in 1987.

She was a member of Valley Fourth Memorial Church.

Mrs. Thurman is survived by her husband, Chuck Thurman; two sons, Michael Mora of Hilo, Hawaii, and Randy Mora of Terre Haute, Ind.; two daughters, Pam Stanciu of Spokane and Cheryl Mora of Williamstown, N.J.; one brother, Max Gilstrap of Azusa, Calif.; three sisters, Jeri Burton of Monrovia, Calif., and Cecil Triplett and Ruby Morton, both of Joplin, Mo.; and six grandchildren.
