Whitworth Defeats Willamette In Double Overtime

Sixth-ranked Whitworth won its second overtime road game in as many nights on Saturday, holding off Willamette, 90-87 in double overtime.

Nate Williams gave the Pirates (18-4, 10-2 Northwest Conference) the lead for good with 57 seconds left when he hit a short jump shot from the right baseline, making the score 88-87. With 18.2 seconds left, Sean Weston added a pair of free throws to provide the final margin.

Nate Dunham’s 3-pointer for Whitworth tied the score at 71-71 near the end of regulation.

And in the second overtime, with the Pirates down by five with about 2 minutes to play, Gabe Jones hit back-to-back 3-pointers to give Whitworth in front.

Dunham finished with 21 points, Roman Wickers had 18, Williams and Jeff Arkills added 15 apiece and Jones had 12.

Willamette fell to 8-13 2-9.
