Steve Nash’s 22 points paced Santa Clara as the Broncos took over sole possession of first place in the West Coast Conference with a win over St. Mary’s (11-2 overall, 4-7 WCC) on Wednesday night in Moraga, Calif.
Nash scored 17 in the first half as the Broncos (17-6, 8-3) took control early. Marlon Garnett scored 15 points off the bench and Brendan Graves added 11 points and 12 rebounds for Santa Clara, which gained a half-game lead over idle Gonzaga.

The Lions attack included Mike O’Quinn’s free throw with 31 seconds left to give Loyola a 12-point lead. Before that, a layup by Terryl Woolery made it 67-54, Loyola’s biggest lead of the game.
