With the wind bending the flagsticks for the second straight day, left-hander Russ Cochran shot a 6-under-par 66 to join three other players atop the leaderboard after 36 holes of the $1.2 million Hawaiian Open.

Brad Fabel and Steve Stricker, with 70s, and Jim Furyk, with a 71, were also at 139, 5-under for two rounds of at the 6,975-yard Waialae Country Club.

At Johannesburg, South Africa, Ernie Els opened defense of his Alfred Dunhill title with eight birdies.

He shot 8-under 64 to lead Irishman David Feherty and fellow South African Michael Scholz by one shot.
