New Episodes Of ‘The Head’ To Air On Mtv

Jackie Potts Miami Herald

A hapless twentysomething named Jim with a purple alien living in his skull. A guy named Ray with a lawn-mower blade cleaving his cranium. A beefy Russian with an extra mouth embedded in his chest. Meet the stars of “The Head,” MTV’s fab, freakish animated series, returning with seven new episodes.

To know them is to love them, says “Head” creator Eric Fogel, 26. The then-unknown New York University graduate was discovered by MTV three years ago and animated the pilot for “The Head” in the basement of his parents’ Long Island home - with the help of some local high school students.

Last spring, “The Head” debuted on “MTV Oddities” with six episodes. In the first, gentle Jim awakes to find his head has outgrown his body three times over. Out of the huge, egg-shaped cranium pops Roy, a troll-like but harmless parasite who declares, “Take me to your leader,” adding, “You don’t know how long I’ve been waiting to say that.”

The unlikely duo develop an odd, symbiotic friendship.

In a new twist, each of this new series of “Head” adventures will satirize a B-movie genre - from karate to prison flicks. In the first episode, Jim unwittingly makes a pact with the devil, spurring his friends to battle Satan in an “American Gladiator”-style tournament for his soul.

Also coming soon: a book chronicling the further adventures of Jim and Roy, and a new character, a Rastafarian with a giant hat and dreadlocks. He also has a critter living in his skull.
