Senate Will Kill Conservatives’ Bills

Associated Press

The Democratic Senate will kill the main agenda items from the House’s social conservatives, a ban on same-sex marriages and two “parents’ rights” bills, Senate leaders confirmed Tuesday.

Gov. Mike Lowry hailed the decision, but House sponsors were outraged.

Despite the urging of some of their members, House Republicans decided not to pursue anti-abortion bills this session, since they had been rebuffed last year by the Senate. Instead, the GOP focused on two key items: parental rights and the ban on gay marriages.

Both are embraced by the Christian Coalition and other political powerful groups.

Senate Majority Leader Sid Snyder, D-Long Beach, said the measures are not scheduled for hearings this week and will be allowed to die.
