Bust At Hotel Yields Big Chunks Of Drugs

From Staff And Wire Reports

Spokane police found what may be heroin and chunks of methamphetamine - one the size of a fist - when they raided a downtown hotel room early Thursday.

Security guards at Cavanaugh’s Inn at the Park, 303 W. North River Dr., tipped police to a possible drug-selling operation about 3:15 a.m., police spokesman Dick Cottam wrote in a press release.

The guards told police they saw a man come and go from a room in the hotel several times and make numerous calls from a lobby pay telephone.

When police searched the room, they found the suspected methamphetamine, plastic bags filled with what may be meth and heroin, and hundreds of plastic bags, Cottam reported.

They also found a blowtorch commonly used to cook methamphetamine.

Police arrested the man, Charles Hood Jr., 31, who gave no address, and Karen L. Deaton, 34, of 2018 W. Buckeye, both of whom were in the room.

They were booked into the county jail on drug charges.
