Centenarians

Christel Hayner Omak, Wash.

Christel Hayner, Omak, recently celebrated her 100th birthday with a party at the home of her son in Omak. Mrs. Hayner was born Feb. 7, 1896. She taught school more than 50 years, beginning in 1914, when she rode horseback to a one-room school in the mountains of Colorado.

In Washington state, she taught in Grandview, Bellingham and Buckley. She retired in 1964 from Seattle’s Highline School District.

She and Henry Hayner married in 1924. He died in 1953. They had two children: Fred Hayner of Omak and Marjorie Stanton of Curlew, Wash.

In 1992 she moved to Omak to live with her son and daughter-in-law, Nan.

Mrs. Hayner, known as “Munna” by her family, has seven grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
