Icy Roads Cause Accidents, Stall Commute

From Staff And Wire Reports

Traffic on Interstate 90 in Spokane came to a standstill during Thursday morning’s commute after icy pavement caused two accidents.

Cars backed up for nearly three miles after a five-car pile-up blocked two westbound lanes near the Altamont exit. The snarl was complicated by another two-car wreck just west of there a short time later.

The accidents occurred about 8:15 a.m. No one was seriously injured in either wreck, and traffic was running smoothly an hour later, said Sgt. Chris Powell of the Washington State Patrol.
