Man Swallowed Drugs, Police Suspect

From Staff And Wire Reports

Spokane police suspect a man who went into seizures in the back of a patrol car Wednesday swallowed illegal drugs before his arrest.

Daniel Ramos, 31, 2220 E. Third, collapsed in the car on the way to the county jail, police spokesman Dick Cottam wrote in a press release Thursday.

Officers took Ramos to a hospital to have his stomach pumped.

They then took him to jail, where he was being held Thursday on charges of possessing drugs with intent to deliver.

Police reportedly found cocaine and marijuana in Ramos’ car when they stopped it Wednesday night.

His companion, Javier Cruz, 19, of Othello, Wash., also was arrested and booked into jail on the drug-possession charge.

Police Capt. Charles Brown said it is not unusual for suspected drug dealers to swallow their merchandise in an attempt to conceal it from police. A 30-year-old man died last month after swallowing several bags filled with drugs.
