Quake Aid Hampered By Rough Weather

Compiled From Wire Services

Stormy seas kept rescuers from bringing aid Thursday to thousands of sick and hungry survivors of a powerful earthquake and the tidal waves it unleashed.

The death toll has risen to 96 since Saturday’s earthquake, with most of the victims from Biak, a remote island off New Guinea’s northern coast that was hit hardest by the disaster. Tidal waves as high as 21 feet washed away 3,000 homes.
