Ed Gray, forced to start due to suspensions of three key California players, scored a season-high 23 points to lead the Bears (15-8, 8-5 Pac-10) past Washington (14-8, 7-6) 67-56 Thursday night at Berkeley, Calif., in a battle of Pacific-10 Conference teams on the NCAA tournament bubble.

Two starters for Cal - guard Jelani Gardner and forward Tremaine Fowlkes - and reserve Prentice McGruder did not play.

Gray was 4 of 8 from 3-point range and 3 of 3 from the line, extending his consecutive free-throw streak to 24.
