At Hallandale, Fla., an implausible colt named Built for Pleasure scored a 143-to-1 upset in the Fountain of Youth Stakes and sullied the reputation of some of the nation’s leading Kentucky Derby candidates, including Unbridled’s Song and Editor’s Note, who had finished first and third in the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile last fall.

At Sierra Nevada, Spain, Pernilla Wiberg of Sweden won her second gold medal of the World Alpine Ski Championships by winning the slalom. After nine of 10 events, Italy leads with four medals overall.

At Storrs, Conn., Kara Wolters scored 27 points as No. 3 Connecticut (26-3, 16-1 Big East) defeated No. 23 Notre Dame (19-6, 14-3) 86-79, the Huskies’ 12th straight women’s basketball victory. … At Auburn, Ala., Samantha Williams’ layup with 2:22 to play gave No. 17 Auburn (19-7, 6-5 Southeastern Conference) a 59-58 victory over No. 22 Mississippi (17-9, 6-5).

Francois Botha must give a rematch to Axel Schulz because of a trace of a steroid found in Botha’s system after he won the IBF heavyweight title Dec. 9. The IBF Executive and Championship Committees also fined Botha $50,000 after a hearing.

At Richmond, Terry Norris stopped Vincent Pettway with his third knockdown of the fight in the eighth round to retain the WBC superwelterweight and IBF junior middleweight titles.

Also, former WBA cruiserweight champion Orlin Norris, Terry’s brother, bobbed and weaved and punched his way to a 10-round split decision over former heavyweight champion Tony Tucker.
