Survivor Of Stalin Purges, Gulag Dies At 82
Anna Larina, widow of purged Bolshevik leader Nikolai Bukharin and herself a survivor of Soviet labor camps, died Saturday at age 82, the ITAR-Tass news agency said.
Bukharin, one of the leaders of the 1917 Russian Revolution, was arrested in 1937 and shot after a show trial staged by dictator Josef Stalin.
For being Bukharin’s wife, Larina also was arrested and torn from their 1-year-old son. She spent nearly two decades in the gulag, the vast Soviet prison-camp system.
Her memoirs, “This I Cannot Forget,” were published in English in 1993.
