Ucla Falls To Unranked Duke, 85-66

Chris Collins scored 27 points for the second straight outing Sunday and Duke turned up its pressure defense to claim an 85-66 victory over No. 16 UCLA at Durham, N.C.

Duke (17-10) became the 11th unranked team to defeat a ranked opponent in the past seven days.

UCLA (19-7) played the first half without starting forward Charles O’Bannon. According to broadcast reports, O’Bannon was benched for disciplinary reasons.

O’Bannon played the final 16 minutes and scored five points.

At the Spectrum in Philadelphia, Ray Allen scored 26 points to lead the Huskies to their victory over the Wildcats, who played without suspended guard Kerry Kittles.

Connecticut (25-2, 15-1 Big East) was coming off a 77-65 loss to Georgetown that ended its 23-game winning streak. Villanova (23-4, 13-3) had won 10 straight.

(6) Cincinnati 65, Tulane 63

At New Orleans, Darnell Burton sank a 3-pointer with 2 seconds left to lead the Bearcats.

Cincinnati (21-3, 10-2 Conference USA) held off a Tulane (17-7, 8-4) second-half charge that saw the Green Wave erase a 10-point halftime deficit and lead by four with just over 3 minutes to play.

At Bloomington, Ind., Chad Austin’s 3-pointer with 13.7 seconds left gave Purdue a win over the arch-rival Hoosiers (15-11, 8-6 Big Ten). The Boilermakers overcame more than 7 minutes without a field goal in the second half.

Purdue (23-4, 13-2 Big Ten) saw an 11-point lead evaporate during its scoring drought before recovering. The victory moved the Boilermakers one step closer to becoming the first team to win three consecutive Big Ten titles outright in three decades.

Temple 57, (12) Virginia Tech 41

At Philadelphia, Derrick Battie scored 15 points and grabbed a career-high 17 rebounds as the Owls kept their NCAA tournament hopes alive by upsetting the Hokies.

The win was the fourth straight for Temple (16-11, 11-4 Atlantic 10) and the lowest point total this season for Virginia Tech (20-4, 11-3).

At Memphis, Tenn., Lorenzen Wright and Cedric Henderson scored 16 points each, and Wright grabbed 11 rebounds, leading the Tigers (20-5, 10-5 Conference USA) to a win over the Cardinals.

Louisville (19-8, 10-3) had a chance to tie the game three times in the final 30 seconds, but DeJuan Wheat missed three long-range shots, including one at the horn.

At Atlanta, Stephon Marbury scored 25 points and took charge in overtime as the Yellow Jackets beat the Wolfpack for their 1,000th win.

Georgia Tech, which has 876 losses, won their fifth straight. It was coach Bobby Cremins’ 292nd win in 15 years at Tech, tying him with John “Whack” Hyder, who was 292-271 in his career.

Tech (18-10, 11-3 ACC) took the conference lead when No. 10 Wake Forest lost to Virginia on Saturday after both schools had been tied for first. N.C. State dropped to 14-13, 3-11.
