16th Birthday Noted By Chelsea Clinton

Compiled From Wire Services

Turning “sweet 16” in the White House, Chelsea Clinton was given three cars for her birthday Tuesday. But her parents turned them down faster than you can say, “Please, Mom. Puhleeeeeze!”

Two radio stations called the White House with offers to ship the “first daughter” cars now that she’s old enough to drive. A third, WOFX in Cincinnati, bought a 1978 Oldsmobile for $1,000 and sent its afternoon deejay on an overnight ride to Washington.

All three offers politely were declined by the White House staff before Chelsea arrived home from school.

In the evening, mom and dad took daughter out on the town for a performance of “Les Miserables” at the National Theatre.
