Austin Croshere scored 18 points to lead five Providence players in double figures as the Friars upset No. 8 Georgetown 84-77 Tuesday night at Providence, R.I.

In an emotion-packed final home game of the season that saw Georgetown coach John Thompson ejected, Providence (16-9, 9-8 Big East) sprinted to an 11-1 lead and never trailed. Georgetown (23-6, 12-5) twice cut the deficit to two in the second half.

(1) Kentucky 88, Auburn 73

At Auburn, Ala., Tony Delk scored 15 points and the Wildcats extended their winning streak to 24 games.

Backed by a raucous crowd and riding a two-game winning streak against Kentucky (25-1, 15-0 Southeastern Conference) when the Wildcats hold the No. 1 ranking, Auburn (18-10, 6-9) looked like a formidable upset threat for a time. But Kentucky overwhelmed the Tigers by converting turnovers into 19 points.

(6) Villanova 76, Boston College 71

At Newton, Mass., Eric Eberz scored 25 points and Alvin Williams had 24 as the Wildcats showed they could win without the suspended Kerry Kittles.

Williams hit a 3-pointer with 61 seconds left to protect a one-point lead, then made 6 of 8 free throws in the last 24 seconds. The Wildcats (24-4, 14-3 Big East) beat BC (16-9, 9-8) for the sixth consecutive time.

(13) Wake Forest 84, (19) UNC 60

At Winston-Salem, N.C., Tony Rutland and Jerry Braswell resurrected Wake Forest’s long-range shooting with a first-half barrage that sent the Demon Deacons over the Tar Heels (18-10, 11-3 Atlantic Coast Conference).

Rutland finished with 22 points and Braswell had 12 as Wake Forest (19-5, 11-4), coming off its worst 3-point shooting performance of the season three nights earlier, matched its season high with 12 3s.

Wake Forest center Tim Duncan had 16 points, 10 rebounds, four assists and four blocked shots.
