Chechens Gun Down Top Russian Cop

A top police official for the Moscow-backed Chechen government was gunned down in Grozny, capital of the breakaway republic, according to reports Wednesday.

Police Maj. Uvais Gozayev was shot in a building staircase Tuesday, the ITAR-Tass news agency said. He was acting head of law enforcement for the republic’s Interior Ministry.
