Schools Not Limited To Offering Internet

From Staff And Wire Reports

Idaho schools are not restricted from allowing students Internet access, according to a state attorney general’s opinion issued Wednesday.

Sen. Gordon Crow, R-Hayden, requested the opinion after a Coeur d’Alene school official expressed concern that school districts might be violating a law that requires them to “protect the morals and health of the pupils.” The concern arose because the Internet could give access to pornographic materials.

Deputy Attorney General David High said the situation is similar to a library, which may include objectionable materials.

“School districts should merely be aware of the potential problem and take reasonable steps to monitor Internet activities,” High wrote. , DataTimes
