Couple Tie Up Escapee From Nevada Prison

Compiled From Wire Services

A convict who escaped from prison picked the wrong house to break into Sunday: He was tied up by the couple who lived there.

“Our people were chasing him the entire time, and that’s why he had to expose himself by breaking into the house,” said Glen Whorton, state prisons spokesman. “He was hungry, thirsty and cold.”

The couple, whose names were not released, tied up Janko Gasic and held him for about 20 minutes until police arrived. Gasic was unarmed.

Gasic, 40, apparently had escaped Wednesday by cutting a hole in the fence at the Southern Desert Correctional Center in Indian Springs, 40 miles northwest of Las Vegas. A hacksaw was found near the opening.

Gasic, of Bosnia, entered the United States illegally before being convicted last year of robbery with a deadly weapon. He was sentenced to 12 years in prison.
