Obituaries

Cecil Hazen Pullman

Memorial service for Cecil Michael Hazen, 82, will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Kimball Funeral Home in Pullman. Burial will be at Pullman City Cemetery.

Mr. Hazen died Friday at Palouse Hills Nursing Center in Pullman.

He was born in Shelbyville, Ill., and farmed with his father there after he graduated from high school.

He joined the Navy in the late 1930s and served for more than 10 years active duty and in the Naval Reserve for several years.

In 1948 he was discharged and married Ruby Beals in Yuma, Ariz., and they moved to Illinois.

In 1957 he and his family moved to Pullman, and he purchased Bowlaway bowling lanes. He and his father-in-law built Leisure Lanes in Pullman, which he operated until the early 1970s. After he sold the bowling business, he went to work for Washington State University as a stores clerk in the physics department. He retired from WSU in 1976.

He and his wife spent several winters in Arizona and moved there permanently in 1980. His wife died in 1988, and Mr. Hazen returned to Pullman in 1993.

He was a member of the Elks Lodge.

Survivors include one daughter, Ruby Jones of Pullman; one sister, Betty Ditzler of Shelbyville, Ill.; four grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

John Hodge Post Falls

Memorial service for John Monroe Hodge, 80, will be Tuesday at 11 a.m. at English Funeral Chapel in Post Falls. English Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Hodge, a lifelong Post Falls resident, died Thursday.

He worked in the area as a heavy equipment mechanic until retiring in 1974.

He married Bernadine Self in 1936, and they later divorced.

Mr. Hodge loved fishing and was a member of Spokane Audubon Park Masonic Lodge No. 272. He was a member of the International Association of Machinists union for many years.

Survivors include his second wife, June of Hayden Lake, Idaho; one son, Bob Hodge of Oregon; two daughters, Sandra Dormair and Donna Minderman, both of Spokane; one sister, Mabel Chase of Post Falls; six grandchildren five great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.

Frederick Ricci Spokane

Memorial service for Frederick J. Ricci, 70, will be at 1 p.m. Sunday at South Hill Seventh-day Adventist Church in Spokane.

Mr. Ricci died Dec. 22 in a Seattle hospital.

He was born in St. Paul, Minn.

In 1964, he married Phyllis Pendleton and they moved to Spokane in 1983.

He had worked as a postal supervisor in California and Washington, before retiring in 1985.

He was a military veteran and was a member of Toastmasters and a volunteer for COPS on the South Hill.

He is survived by his wife of 31 years, Phyllis; two sons, Steven and Thomas Ricci, both of Burbank, Calif.; two sisters, Delores Biske of Fargo, N.D., and Gloria Pisek of White Bear Lake, Minn.; three stepsons, Brad Pendleton of Spirit Lake, Idaho, Pepper Pendleton of Spokane and Lonnie Pendleton of Corona Del Mar, Calif.; 10 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.

Chesia George Spokane

Private cremation service for Chesia P. George, 90, is planned. Riplinger Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. George, who was born in Acme, Texas, died Friday.

She graduated from Lewis and Clark High School in 1924 and from Eastern Washington University.

She was a schoolteacher and taught in Greenbluff, Creston, Marshall, and Windsor, Wash., for many years.

She had lived in Spokane for more than 75 years.

Mrs. George is survived by her husband of 65 years, John George; and one sister, Juanita Walker of Las Vegas, Nev.

Edythe Schade Spokane

Memorial service for Edythe Laura Schade, 83, will be at 1 p.m. Friday at Sunset Mausoleum Chapel at Fairmount Memorial Park cemetery. Riplinger Funeral Home is in charge of cremation.

A lifetime Spokane resident, Mrs. Schade died Wednesday.

She had worked as a seamstress for Alsco Linen Supply for 20 years.

She was a member of the Ladies of the Moose No. 161 and was a foster grandparent.

Mrs. Schade is survived by two sisters, Margaret McAllister and Patricia Nemitz, both of Spokane; and two brothers, William and Leonard Patterson, both of Spokane.

Arlene Greene St. Maries

Service for Arlene M. Greene, 65, will be Tuesday at 11 a.m. at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in St. Maries. Yates-Hodge Funeral Home of St. Maries is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Greene, who was born in Kendrick, Idaho, died Wednesday.

She grew up in Kendrick and graduated from high school there in 1948. She married Benjamin Greene that year and moved to Lewiston.

She moved to St. Maries in 1955 and became a homemaker.

Mrs. Greene was a Cub Scout den mother and enjoyed growing flowers for competition at the Benewah County Fair. She also enjoyed fishing and polishing rocks. She loved her cats and nature.

Survivors include her husband; two sons, William of Seoul, Korea, and Steven of St. Maries; one daughter, Diana Kohn of El Paso, Texas; two brothers, Delmer and Roy Riley, both of Spokane; one sister, Lee Hazeltine of Clarkston, Wash.; and eight grandchildren.

Pearl Adams Tekoa, Wash.

Burial service for Pearl I. Adams, 98, will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Fall City (Wash.) Cemetery. Kramer Funeral Home in Tekoa is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Adams, who died Thursday at home, was born in Harpster, Idaho.

She married Walter Adams in California in 1936, and they settled in Carnation, Wash., where they operated a dairy farm and raised livestock and poultry. They later moved to Fall City and to Cle Elum, Wash.

Mr. Adams died in 1968, and Mrs. Adams moved to Tekoa in 1972.

Survivors include one son, Robert Adams of Fernwood, Idaho; four grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

Eleanor Richardson Spokane

Private service for Eleanor P. Richardson, 43, will be held.

Miss Richardson, a longtime Spokane resident, died Wednesday.

She was born in Spokane.

She is survived by her father, John Richardson of Hayden Lake, Idaho; one brother, John Richardson Jr., of Spokane; three sisters, Kathryn Edmonds and Jacqueline Peterson, both of Spokane, and Susanne Shepard of Atherton, Calif.

Lavone ‘Von’ Walt Spokane

Memorial service for Lavone “Von” Walt, 77, will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Hazen and Jaeger Funeral Home. Private inurnment will be at Fairmount Memorial Park.

Mrs. Walt, who died Thursday, was born in Kramer, N.D.

She had worked as a waitress in the restaurant at The Bon Marche for many years and retired in 1983.

She was a 37-year Spokane resident.

Mrs. Walt is survived by one daughter, Candace Dahl of Spokane; one son, Gary Dahl of Los Gatos, Calif.; two brothers, Olaf and Clifford Ferm, both of Spokane; three grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Harry Cordell Spokane

No service will be held for Harry Albert Cordell, 78, at his request. Hazen and Jaeger Valley Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Cordell, who died Dec. 23, was born in Irvin, Wash.

He served in the Air Force for 20 years and retired in 1967 from Fairchild Air Force Base.

He is survived by his wife, Margie Cordell; five sons, Ron and Don Cordell, Fred and Randy Harvey and Ralph White; four daughters, Edna Dow, Vicki Henton, Glenna Hess and Lisa Lee; two stepsons, Bill and Bob Hubbard; 30 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Leo Robinson Phoenix, Ariz.

Funeral Mass for Leo A. Robinson, 64, was Dec 23 at St. Anthony Catholic Church in Newport, Wash. Burial was at Newport Cemetery.

Mr. Robinson, a former Spokane resident, died Dec. 18 in Phoenix, where he moved four years ago.

He was born in Astoria, Ore.

He married Barbara Everett in Reno, Nev., in 1956. She died in 1982.

He was a self-employed logger.

Survivors include three sons, Leo and Vince Robinson, both of Newport, and Mark Robinson of Oregon; two daughters, Nichole Robinson of Phoenix and Toby Robinson of Klamath Falls, Ore.; two brothers, Francis Robinson of Spokane and Gerald Robinson of Klamath Falls; two sisters, Dolores Fry of South Lake Tahoe, Calif., and Leah Langson of Klamath Falls; and one grandchild.
