Partially Built Home Torn Down By Owners

A partially built house left atop a slope in the Indian Trail neighborhood has been demolished by the owners.

U.S. Bank had the structure torn down the day before Christmas, said Jim Bjorkland, a real-estate agent who is listing the property.

The city had ordered the structure destroyed after neighbors complained that kids had been congregating at the site and rain and wind storms increased the danger of it sliding.

The house was built on fill and never adequately reinforced or backfilled, said city code enforcers. The city building official, who ordered the demolition, feared the concrete foundation and wood framing could slide down the incline.

“They got on it as soon as they got the notice,” Bjorkland said about the demolition.

The structure was hauled away by Rob’s Demolition at a cost of $3,000, he said.

The reason it took so long to remove the hazard is because U.S. Bank acquired the property after foreclosure and was waiting for clear title. The original builder, Elite Home Construction, filed for bankruptcy.

The lot at 8619 N. Forest Blvd. is now back on the market and listed for sale.
