UI Player Violates His Probation

Local briefs

University of Idaho men’s basketball center Bjorn Magnussen admitted in court on Wednesday to violating three conditions of his probation, Latah County prosecuting attorney Bill Thompson said.

Magnussen, who has been suspended indefinitely from the team, admitted to using marijuana in August and in November and to quitting a substance abuse program without permission of his probation officer.

Magnussen is on probation as part of a June sentencing for theft of a cassette player. He also was ordered to pay $626.50 in fines.

Magnussen, a freshman from Issaquah, Wash., who had played sparingly, will be sentenced next Wednesday.

He turned himself in just before Christmas and has been in jail for about 10 days, said Thompson, adding that Magnussen’s bond has been reduced from $5,000 to $2,500.
