Yakima Valley Sweeps Spokane

Yakima Valley College opened the NWAACC basketball season by sweeping a doubleheader from Community College of Spokane on Wednesday night at Spokane CC.

The visiting Indians, led by Antwine Williams 23 points, edged away in the second half for an 84-77 victory in the men’s game. Elisha Yarlott scored 21 points as the YVC women downed the cold-shooting Sasquatch 57-49 in the opener.

Williams connected on 10 of his 18 shots from the field, offsetting a 20-point, nine-rebound performance by Spokane’s Bobby Raiford.

Brothers Rich and Andy Dagnostino hit five 3-pointers between them and combined for 21 more Yakima points. Medical Lake High grad Joe Deutsch scored 11 points for the Indians and contributed a game-high 14 rebounds.

Yarlott pitched in three of four tries from 3-point range to offset her six turnovers as Yakima’s women improved their record to 10-5.

Spokane, led by Annie Shepherd’s 14 points, shot 28 percent.
