Mobile Home, Storage Shed Destroyed By Fire; No One Hurt

From Staff And Wire Reports

Fire flattened a storage shed, damaged an adjoining mobile home and destroyed thousands of dollars worth of household items stored in both Thursday afternoon.

Don Plumley saw flames shooting from the shed behind his father’s house at 16015 E. Fourth about 1:45 p.m. and called firefighters.

Flames had engulfed the shed and leaped to the mobile home by the time firefighters arrived. Bottles of propane and paint that were stored in the shed exploded while firefighters extinguished the blaze.

No one was living in the mobile home.

A wood-burning stove that was left unattended is believed to have started the fire, said Valley Fire Inspector Eric Olson.

Plumley, his wife and their two children are staying in a travel trailer behind his father’s house while they look for another place to live, he said. Clothes, furniture and other household items were being stored in the shed.

Plumley estimated his loss at nearly $6,000.

“Everything I owned for the last 20 years (was inside),” said Plumley, who was not insured.

Plumley said he tried to light a fire in the shed’s wood stove to warm it while he worked inside, but gave up when it wouldn’t light.

Fire officials said the fire must have flared up after Plumley left the shed. , DataTimes
