Snow Sport Report

Compiled By Vince Dice

Alpine skiing

Snow seems to have skipped Washington entirely, instead going north to Canada and east to Idaho. Mt. Spokane and Ski Bluewood need about eight more inches to open.

Over four inches of new snow in the past 24 hours let Silver Mountain open chairs three and four today.

Idaho’s Lookout Pass will offer two specials beginning this week. Thursdays will be Ladies Day ($10 rentals, $10 lift tickets and $10 lessons) and Fridays Boomer Day (same deal for anyone over 40). For info call 777-7701.

Nordic skiing

Like solitude? Avoid Mount Spokane nordic trails Saturdays noon to 3 p.m. Beginning this week, 140 kids plus parents and instructors will converge at Selkirk Lodge for youth ski league sessions. Sno-Park lot will be jammed.

Prepare for blowdowns at Mt. Spokane. Park officials warned of high winds Thursday morning.

Newport Geophyisical Trails may be closed for Sunday’s Ski Fest due to continued budget bickering in Washington, D.C. However, all Ski Fest events scheduled for 49 Degrees North on Sunday should still begin at 10 a.m. Info: 325-9000.

Snowmobiling

Priest Lake’s Elkin’s and Grandview Resorts have started grooming trails. Colville’s Beaver Lodge needs about eight more inches.
