Avalanche Kills Teens Near Galena Summit

Associated Press

Two teenagers have died after they were trapped in an avalanche at Galena Summit in the central Idaho mountains.

The victims were identified as Peter Hall, Ketchum, and Richard Reece, Red Bank, N.J. Both were 19.

Hall’s brother, Chris, was unharmed and notified authorities about 3 p.m. Friday. A helicopter brought a ski rescue team and a dog to the scene an hour later and within 20 minutes the dog found the youths.

Blaine County Sheriff Walt Femling said the three apparently were snowboarding and walking on Idaho Highway 75 near the 8,700-foot summit when the snowslide occurred.
