Officials Study Papers Of Man Who Shot Family

Royal Canadian Mounted Police are examining personal family papers in hope of learning why a Taiwanese immigrant shot and killed his mother, wife, two daughters and himself.

Constable Grant Learned said Saturday the documents were seized after the bodies of James and Jane Huang, both 40, daughters Rebecca, 15, Amber, 9, and Tsa Chin Chi Huang, 67, of Taiwan, were removed from their townhouse in this suburb south of Vancouver.

Only a 4-year-old son survived the shooting early Friday morning. Witnesses said he was passed to a neighbor by the bleeding mother before she was dragged back inside the dwelling.

The boy is staying with Vancouver-area relatives after being interviewed by police.

“We are looking at the background for what could possibly be a motivation … an understanding of the scene and how things appear to have happened within the house,” Learned said.

All five died of gunfire. Police, who evacuated a few nearby residences, recovered three rifles.
