Rep. John Meyers, R-Ind., To Retire

Compiled From Wire Services

U.S. Rep. John Myers said Saturday he is retiring after nearly 30 years in Congress.

Myers, a 67-year-old Republican, joins a wave of retirees leaving the House. Twenty-one Democrats and 10 Republicans - including Myers - have now announced they are not seeking re-election, either because they are retiring or seeking another office. One of the Democrats, Walter Tucker III of California, resigned.

After completing his 15th term next January, Myers said he and his wife, Carol, plan to return to their home in Covington and spend more time with their grandchildren, family and friends.

Myers complained about a growing lack of civility among politicians in Washington.
