Suspects Named In South Hill Bust

From Staff And Wire Reports

Police said a drug-growing operation they busted at a South Hill house was relatively small, but had the potential to be very profitable.

Kevin R. Deshner, 43, and Jackie D. Richardson, 36, were arrested Friday night for growing marijuana in their basement. Both told police they live in the home at 3218 E. 33rd.

Harold Wayne Sterling, 35, was also arrested on unrelated charges. Sterling gave his address as 3001 E. Upriver Dr.

Police also found two homemade explosive devices in the house.

About 20 neighbors near the house were urged to either evacuate the area or retreat to their basements while the joint city-county bomb squad removed the explosives at 11:30 p.m.

Deshner, who has a record of convictions for burglary and theft, was in the house when police raided it about 7:40 p.m.

Sterling and Richardson were arrested after they drove up to the house. Both were armed with handguns, police said, but only Richardson had a permit to carry one.

Sterling was booked into the Spokane County Jail on two outstanding warrants, carrying a concealed weapon without a permit and for possession of methamphetamines.
