Driver Jailed After Hitting Bicyclist

A 62-year-old Spokane woman was jailed Sunday afternoon after hitting a bicyclist with her car and driving on, authorities said.

Geraldine M. Lancaster was booked into the Spokane County Jail on charges of vehicular assault and injury hit and run.

The bicyclist, Don E. Smith, 37, was treated at Valley Hospital and Medical Center for a cut to his head, according to the Washington State Patrol. He was released shortly afterward.

Smith was pedaling westbound on the shoulder of Montgomery near Argonne at about 4:25 p.m. when Lancaster’s car hit him, the report stated.
