Troops Kill Leader Of Kashmir Rebels
Security forces in insurgency-wracked Jammu-Kashmir state shot and killed a rebel leader Monday, a man they suspected of two bomb attacks in New Delhi.
Sajaad Keenu, chief of the Jammu-Kashmir Islamic Front, was killed in a gun battle on the outskirts of Srinagar, the northern Indian state’s summer capital and the main theater of insurgency.
Police in Jammu, the state’s winter capital, said no soldiers were injured.
Keenu, 32, was arrested seven months ago but had escaped from a police interrogation center in Srinagar.
